My name is Lauren Gill (she/her) and I am a graduate counsellor at Avery Therapy Centre. I am genuinely interested in learning about your life experiences and I will provide you with a safe space to feel heard, understood, and respected, in your journey towards growth, self-improvement, and wellness. Whether you are seeking counselling to help deal with difficulties and challenges, ways to heal, or to seek a balanced and fulfilling life, I will empower and support you to make the changes you aim for. I am optimistic about the unique potential and resilience of everyone I meet and I am grateful for the trust you place in me with your innermost personal thoughts and feelings.
In my own journey, there have been many who taught and inspired me to be a better individual and reliable supporter.
Before pursuing my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, I completed my Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of British Columbia. Through my education, I’ve gained rewarding opportunities that further awakened my passion for counselling and nurturing human connections. I’ve been fortunate to expand my knowledge about unique human experiences by working with diverse populations, including youth in care, international and ethnically diverse individuals preparing to live in Canada, and adults seeking services for mental health and substance use issues. Outside of counselling, I enjoy spending time walking along the ocean, spending quality time with friends and family, and seeking new hobbies.
Therapeutic Approach
In my counselling practice, I use clear communication filled with compassion, an open nature, and non-judgment to demonstrate my understanding and responsiveness. I combine my personal and professional learning to nurture a safe and engaging therapeutic relationship to support you on your path towards healing and wellness. I strive to ensure you feel ready to connect with your resilience and further empower yourself. Feeling heard and understood is an important step towards facilitating change and I am committed to providing you with an oppourtunity to heal, reflect, and transform.
With respect for your choices and values, I will support you through a holistic, client-focused, strengths-based, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed approach. My motivation is to be a helpful guide on your journey by exploring what is most fulfilling to you, whether that is through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness-based practices, or Somatic Experiencing. I will accommodate these evidence-based practices to fit within your unique needs by celebrating and accommodating your capacity for growth. Through our work together, we will collaborate and choose the treatment path that works best for your counselling journey, as you are the most knowledgeable about your life and I am both honoured and privileged to listen to your stories.
