Background
My name is Laura Langen (she/her) and I am a registered clinical counsellor at Avery Therapy Centre. I was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and hold a bachelor’s degree in commerce from University of Saskatchewan that supported me in my years of leadership, coaching, and business development with value aligned companies. Although I loved my work, my personal experiences with mental health and passion for supporting others in their wellness journeys led me to pursue my Master of Counselling at City University here in the beautiful city of Vancouver I now call home.
I am grateful to have travelled and lived in various countries and communities around the world. Through my experiences, I learned that life is all about genuine connection to ourselves, our loved ones, and those around us. My passion for community has led me to volunteer with organizations that provide safe spaces to at risk youth and adults. Here, my focus has been providing a genuine safe connection, no matter someone’s background, that allows spaces for self-understanding and empowerment to take place. Through the people I have met and experiences I have had, I have come to know more about myself and further connect to the natural world around me I value so deeply. You can find me swimming in the open ocean, breathing mindfully on the forest floor, and walking blissfully around the seawall any time of the year.
Therapeutic Approach
I believe life is meant to be lived and my approach works with your body, mind, and spirit to allow yourself peace in the life you create. I offer both individual and relationship counselling using a client centered and trauma informed approach that enables us to safely explore the impacts of your life that have brought us to work together. I integrate acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychoeducation, and somatic mindfulness work to heal and grow forward to a place aligned with your values and authentic self.
I know seeking support can bring up many emotions and I place my first priority on developing a trusting, safe, and authentic relationship. I recognize no two humans are alike and we will work together to customize your therapy as we work together online or in person. I believe therapy should move between darkness and lightness, and I integrate humour, nature-based practises, and strength-based approaches to awaken you to awareness of a new reality. I look forward to meeting you and getting started!
