Jana Hruba Bio

Background My name is Jana Hruba and I work as a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I grew up, studied, worked, and got married in the Czech Republic. In 2015 my partner and I moved to Vancouver. Shortly after our move I became a mom to our two beautiful children. I feel very grateful to call Vancouver my home now. The mountains and woods of British Columbia allow me to do what makes my heart sing – skiing, biking, hiking or simply sitting by a campfire, playing the guitar and singing. I love and deeply admire nature, respect my parents, trust my husband and love our kids. A big part of my professional life is related to first responders as I worked for 7 years as a psychologist and counsellor. I provided short and long term counselling and coaching to first responders and their family members, dealing with stress and difficulties due to their daily job as well as ordinary life situations. In addition I was lecturing on communication skills, mental hygiene, burn out syndrome. I also worked with victims and witnesses of crime. Volunteering at victim support organizations was also part of my professional experience. While living in California I volunteered for FRSN (First Responder Support Network) at their retreat centre (WCPR - West Coast Post-traumatic Retreat) where we were dealing with traumatic and stressful experiences of police officers, firefighters and their families from across the USA and Canada. For my counselling registration in BC I did an internship at Together We Can - Addiction Recovery & Education Society in Vancouver where I worked with men dealing with alcohol and drug addiction, often suffering from traumatic experiences. Therapeutic Approach During our sessions I will always do everything I can to make sure that you are heard, understood and accepted. Together, we will work hard on making your life more meaningful, full of joy and good memories. I deeply admire people who find the courage to seek help. This is a sign of strength, not a weakness to me. I view them as heroes, who fight to make their lives better. In my counselling practice I have worked with anxiety, loneliness, depression, self-esteem, post-traumatic growth, trauma, relationship issues, attachment issues, expat-life challenges, career coaching and parenting challenges. My therapeutic approach is influenced mainly by dynamic psychotherapy and attachment-based theories. I try to integrate a person-centered, trauma-informed, and solution-focused approach in my work with clients. I am and always have been deeply honoured by the chance to witness such bravery, resilience, growth and happiness in my clients lives. My availability can be found here. "Listen to your needs.
