I think that having a suspicion that you’re affected by mental health could actually compound that or exacerbate it.

I know that I like to have a lot of – not definite answers, but just clarity, and I think that seeing a mental health expert or a family physician who knows the signs and can actually give you a definitive answer of “No, you’re not suffering from this, you are just in a very stressful stage of school, and you have a lot of family stuff going on. You don’t actually have depression or anything.”

I think that having that kind of clarity and that reassurance that you can get through this with an efficient and appropriate coping mechanism. I think that would be really helpful.

And on the flipside, having someone say “You know, yes, this is real. It’s not all in your head, and this is where we go from here. I think that that would be a very necessary step.
