Lindsey Tasker Cole Bio

Lindsey Tasker Cole Physiotherapist, Pelvic Health Therapist Book With Lindsey Lindsey is a physical therapist who completed her education at the University of Saskatchewan. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology in 2008, Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2010 and finished her Master’s degree in Physical therapy in 2012. Soon after starting her career, she was quickly drawn to pelvic health physiotherapy after seeing the necessity for this type of rehabilitation and the high demand for care. After taking several post grad courses in pelvic floor physio she has been hooked, and now strives to provide the most evidence based and clinically relevant practice to her clients. By focusing on the whole person and structuring treatment individually, it allows for the most personalized, meaningful approach to therapy, especially when dealing with the intimate nature of the pelvic floor. Lindsey being a mom herself can truly speak from experience how essential pre- and post-partum pelvic floor care is. With additional training and now being an ambassador with GROWCO postpartum rehabilitation; she has a passion for ensuring Momma’s are well taken care of, so they can take care of their families. Lindsey also has a strong background in orthopedics and manual therapy, treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, neuro- muscular disorders, balance and gait retraining, acute sport injuries and prophylactic care. Incorporating detailed exercise prescription, education of the injury and client goals allows treatment to be very tailored to the individual. Being a track and field alumni with the U of S Huskies, she has a special interest in running injuries, prevention, and return to sport progression. Lindsey is also a certified vestibular therapist. Problems like vertigo, dizziness, visual disturbance, motion sensitivities, and feelings of being off balance can be associated with inner ear dysfunction. Many vestibular conditions can be easily diagnosed and appropriately treated in clinic and with home exercises.

Sciatic pain or sciatica is a common symptom rather than a specific diagnosis. It refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and into the legs. This pain can vary in intensity and location, but it typically affects one side of the body.

The sciatic nerve can be irritated or compressed due to various underlying causes. Some common reasons for sciatic pain include:

  1. Lumbar disc herniation: When the gel-like material inside a spinal disc protrudes or leaks out and presses on the nerve roots, it can cause sciatic pain.

  2. Spinal stenosis: This condition involves the narrowing of the spinal canal, which can put pressure on the sciatic nerve roots.

  3. Piriformis syndrome: The piriformis muscle, located in the buttock region, can sometimes irritate or compress the sciatic nerve, resulting in similar symptoms to sciatica.

  4. Spondylolisthesis: This occurs when a vertebra slips out of place and puts pressure on the nerve roots that make up the sciatic nerve.

  5. Muscle imbalances or tightness: Issues such as muscle imbalances, poor posture, or tightness in the muscles surrounding the spine and pelvis can contribute to sciatic pain.

  6. Trauma or injury: Accidents or injuries that affect the lower back or buttocks can lead to sciatic pain.

It's crucial to consult a physiotherapist or healthcare professional for a thorough assessment when experiencing sciatic pain. They will evaluate your symptoms, perform physical examinations, and may request imaging tests to identify the specific cause of your pain. Based on the findings, an appropriate treatment plan can be developed, which may include exercises, manual therapy, pain management techniques, and lifestyle modifications.

Remember, each case of sciatic pain is unique, and the treatment approach may vary depending on the underlying cause. A professional assessment will help determine the most effective strategies to alleviate pain, promote healing, and prevent future episodes.
