Rafael is a highly experienced physical therapist with over 19 years of practice. He is dedicated to staying updated with the latest evidence-based practices and prioritizes providing the best care standards based on his extensive clinical experience. Rafael obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Santa Cecilia in 2004. He further pursued post-university studies in sports physiotherapy at the Federal University of Sao Paulo in 2005. Due to his expertise and passion for the field, he was invited to be an assistant professor at Paulista University in 2007 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2009. During his time as a professor, he taught classes in physiotherapy assessment and semiology, orthopedics/trauma, and anatomy. Rafael's love for anatomy led him to pursue a Master of Science in Cell and Structural Biology with an emphasis on anatomy in 2013. His research focused on muscle biology and the healing properties associated with the inflammatory process. Rafael received the title of Orthopedics and Trauma Physiotherapist Specialist from the Brazilian Physiotherapy Association, reflecting his primary area of expertise. Throughout his career, he has treated a wide range of conditions, including stroke, Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injuries, and other neurological syndromes. He also has extensive experience working with the geriatric population and individuals with various chronic diseases. Currently, he serves as an Affiliated Clinical Educator of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FRM) at the University of Alberta. In his treatment approach, Rafael incorporates various techniques such as dry needling, Mulligan, and isostretching (postural techniques). He has also completed courses in concussion management and pain management. With his strong manual skills, including spinal manipulation, and his ability to educate patients effectively, Rafael ensures the best possible outcomes for his clients. It's worth noting that Rafael is the only physiotherapist in Alberta with training in Fascial CounterStrain, a therapeutic hands-on method designed to release spasms in all tissues of the human body. During his leisure time, Rafael prioritizes spending quality time with his family. He also maintains an active lifestyle by participating in sports such as soccer and biking.
