Dr. Sean Jackson Bio

Dr. Sean Jackson (She/Her/Hers) ND “Health is a state of complete mental, social and physical well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” - World Health Organization My personal objective as a naturopathic physician is to provide you with autonomy; to give you the ability to advocate for yourself and your loved ones. Through education, we can learn about the underlying causes of disease and have the power to make our own choices regarding our health – one that offers personal empowerment and better quality of life. I have a particular interest in the politics of health and illness, emphasizing the social determinants of health, public health policy and promotion, and the benefit that preventative healthcare can have in our communities. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Honours in Health Studies and Global Development from Queen’s University, and my Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. For the past year and a half I took a proactive approach to health by working with Vancouver Coastal Health during their immunization campaign. As one of the six principles of Naturopathic Medicine, preventative health allows us to take an in-depth look at our environment and impede unnecessary illness and suffering.

I have a general practice but also have a special interest in the following areas: - Mental Health (Anxiety, Depression, Burnout, Post-Partum) - Menstrual Health (Dysmenorrhea, Menorrhagia) - Digestive Health (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Constipation)
 - Skin Health (Eczema, Psoriasis, Acne) As a naturopathic physician, I have a wide scope of practice encompassing all modalities of naturopathic care including: acupuncture, botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, IV therapy, lifestyle counselling, and prescriptive authority. I have a passion for evidence-based medicine and academic research, having presented and been awarded for both independent and course-based research. Thus, I will support you with evidence-based dietary advice, supplemental care, and laboratory testing to create an effective and sustainable protocol that takes into account your personalized values, needs, and goals. Having grown-up in Lynn Valley, I am ecstatic to return to my roots and have a practice on the North Shore. The North Shore reminds me of family, and I can’t wait to be introduced to yours.
I would like to acknowledge that I work on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwxw̱ ú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səlí̓lwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. It is an honour to explore this land and also call it my home. Please note that I will be moving from my downtown location to Lynn Valley starting November 1st, 2022. I will still be available for virtual appointments. Please click below to book online

One of the most common conditions women experience during their first trimester of their pregnancy is nausea and vomiting and although it is quite normal, it can cause women a lot of stress and fatigue as well as a loss of a lot of nutrients and fluids.

The cause isn’t fully understood. However, it’s mainly due to the increase – the exponential increase of hormones experienced during this time, mainly HCG, estrogen, and progesterone. These hormones have effects on all other cells in the body as well which can cause some of these gastrointestinal symptoms women feel.

Although nausea can be very frustrating and tiring for women, there are a lot of treatment options to help. Simple things like changing your diet and your lifestyle can make a huge impact, like having regular exercise or ensuring that there’s always food in your stomach. Having an empty stomach can actually make the nauseating symptoms much more severe. So keeping a snack in your purse or in your car will help alleviate some of these symptoms.

Dehydration is common in women with increased nausea and vomiting so it’s really important to find ways to replenish fluid in the body. If you’re not able to keep water down or have trouble taking in water, intravenous vitamin therapy is a great alternative.

With this treatment, your naturopathic doctor can also infuse vitamins directly into your blood stream. Vitamins such as B6 and B12 will help decrease the nauseous feeling as well as increase energy throughout your pregnancy. Again, it depends on the patient. And we often will design very specific treatment plans in terms of supplements and dietary change to help with these symptoms.  Lab tests, of course, play a big role in diagnosing digestive issues. So, we would look at systemic levels of inflammation. We can also measure hydrogen and methane on the breath to determine if there are any microorganisms contributing to these symptoms.  If you’re experiencing digestive issues of any kind and you’d like to learn more about what’s causing these symptoms, see your local naturopathic doctor.
