Dr. Lynleigh Immelman Bio

Born in South Africa, I obtained my Medical Degree. I, then worked in Zululand as an Anaesthesiologist for 9 years. I unfortunately lived in South Africa in the "Apartheid" era. I left South Africa & moved to Oxford England. There, I worked in Anaesthesiology, at The Nuffield General Hospital for 4 years. Openings began to emerge in Canada in the late 1970's for Foreign Medical Graduates. I entered Canada through Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) in 1982. It was February & minus 28 degrees! Working as a G.P. Anaesthetist in the tiny town of Nipawin, 6 hours north of Saskatoon, I soon became at ease with the frigid cold & the hot summers. I loved the lakes & wildlife in this area. Learnt to Windsurf, a sport I followed for many, many years. Geese & ducks became my passion. I then turned to train as a Psychiatrist at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon). Completed my training in 1996. Moved to Victoria, British Columbia & worked at Student Health on the Campus of the University of British Columbia. I worked there for 10 years & then moved into Private Practise in Victoria, working in this capacity for 10 years. Initially I loved my work but became disillusioned with the lack of Psychosocial Support for my patients. I made an unprecedented switch to Counselling in 2015. Moved, with my Husband, to Kelowna B.C. Never been happier than in this profession. I have added Mental Illness Education for all that are interested. As well, in June of 2016, I will start to add Workshops on various topics to the occupation that I love. I am more content, as a Counsellor, than I have ever been in my academic career. I look forward to many more years in this Profession.

I saw Dr. Immelman in Victoria. She did more harm then good. I wouldn't recommend her for anything. Likes to prescribe several medications like you're an experiment. No empathy or compassion, just apathy. I know she was reported to the B.C. College of Physicians. Do your homework for reviews on this "Dr."

I was very pleased with the care Dr. Immelman provided to me when I was a student at UVic and struggling. I found her reflexive and responsive. I felt that her care was sincere and thoughtful. I especially appreciated her interest in me beyond medications to prescribe.

@5-star review, you're clearly dr immelman trying to write a review of yourself. You're a **** doctor and a **** counselor. You should be in prison for what you did to your psychiatry patients.

Another former "patient" of hers here. Saw her in 2010 when she was a psychiatrist at UVIC. She's a hag who insisted I was bipolar when I'm not (confirmed by every doctor I've seen since) and prescribed me benzos at 18 without warning me about addiction or withdrawal. You're better off getting therapy from a bartender or priest than this bully. Ask her why she switched from psychiatry to counselling. Answer: malpractice.

All I hear from the previous patient's description is anger, and a slew of completely subjective & hostile personal views. Why did you not ask your Family Doctor or GP for a referral to a different Psychiatrist when you felt that you were not being treated in what you thought of at the time in your best possible interests? Who forced you to continue to book appointments if you were so poorly treated as you claim to be the case? Did you ever contact the BC College of Physicians & Surgeons with a formal complaint? If not, why not? No. Just a totally self absorbed and cowardly anonymous letter to no one in particular. No wonder excellent Psychiatrists are leaving the VIHA circus in droves? Good Luck.

Dr. Immelman treated me in Victoria. She is to be avoided at all costs! In Victoria she called herself the best psychiatrist treating bipolar. She ruled by fear and over drugged me. When I changed psychiatrists, I was correctly diagnosed and my meds were reduced considerably. Now that I am being treated for the proper diagnosis, I am doing considerably better. She is a bully, and provides treatment and councelling on her terms only.
