"Jordan is a Physical Therapist who has enjoyed practising in the musculoskeletal/outpatient field for over ten years. Jordan graduated with his degree in Physical Therapy with Distinction from the University of Saskatchewan in 2008. For the first seven years of his career, Jordan worked in Saskatchewan within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation facility alongside physicians, psychologists, kinesiologists and orthopaedic surgeons treating patients with a variety of sports, work and motor vehicle accident related injuries. Jordan more recently made the move West to the sun-kissed Okanagan in 2016 where he has continued his work in private practice. Jordan is thrilled to have joined the Prime Physiotherapy team in January, 2020. Jordan has always demonstrated a strong commitment to professional post-graduate education, clinical development and evidence based practice. In 2014, Jordan completed the highest level of post-graduate training in manual therapy. Holding this Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Physical Therapy through the Canadian Orthopaedic Division has earned Jordan status as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapists (FCAMPT). Furthermore, Jordan is credentialed to treat neuropathic conditions using Gunn Dry Needling Intramuscular Stimulation (CGIMS), earning this certification through the University of British Columbia. Jordan has been a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association for the past 11 years. Jordan’s treatment approach utilizes manual therapy in the form of mobilization or manipulation of the spine and peripheral joints to maximize joint biomechanics, Intramuscular Stimulation Needling (IMS) when appropriate, a significant emphasis on strength training as well as individualized education to assist patients in achieving their athletic or functional goals. When away from the clinic, Jordan enjoys playing golf, tennis, volleyball and hockey, travelling the world with his young family and of course jamming a tune or two on one of his favourite guitars."

Sciatic pain or sciatica is a common symptom rather than a specific diagnosis. It refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and into the legs. This pain can vary in intensity and location, but it typically affects one side of the body.

The sciatic nerve can be irritated or compressed due to various underlying causes. Some common reasons for sciatic pain include:

  1. Lumbar disc herniation: When the gel-like material inside a spinal disc protrudes or leaks out and presses on the nerve roots, it can cause sciatic pain.

  2. Spinal stenosis: This condition involves the narrowing of the spinal canal, which can put pressure on the sciatic nerve roots.

  3. Piriformis syndrome: The piriformis muscle, located in the buttock region, can sometimes irritate or compress the sciatic nerve, resulting in similar symptoms to sciatica.

  4. Spondylolisthesis: This occurs when a vertebra slips out of place and puts pressure on the nerve roots that make up the sciatic nerve.

  5. Muscle imbalances or tightness: Issues such as muscle imbalances, poor posture, or tightness in the muscles surrounding the spine and pelvis can contribute to sciatic pain.

  6. Trauma or injury: Accidents or injuries that affect the lower back or buttocks can lead to sciatic pain.

It's crucial to consult a physiotherapist or healthcare professional for a thorough assessment when experiencing sciatic pain. They will evaluate your symptoms, perform physical examinations, and may request imaging tests to identify the specific cause of your pain. Based on the findings, an appropriate treatment plan can be developed, which may include exercises, manual therapy, pain management techniques, and lifestyle modifications.

Remember, each case of sciatic pain is unique, and the treatment approach may vary depending on the underlying cause. A professional assessment will help determine the most effective strategies to alleviate pain, promote healing, and prevent future episodes.
