When my mom first complained of slurred speech, hoarse voice, out of breath, etc. Dr Quadir told her she was “just getting old”. Unacceptable for a doctor to say and my mom was very upset. A couple months later she couldn’t lift her head (it was chin to chest) and finally Quadir took her seriously. However, she had no idea what the problem was and sent her to all the wrong specialists - heart specialist (really?!), respiratory specialist, ENT (ear, nose, throat), rheumatoid arthritis specialist. Each specialist took months to get in to see and each said there was nothing wrong in their specialty area. Finally the rheumatoid arthritis specialist said “anyone of her age complaining of muscle weakness, slurred speech, etc. needs to be seen by a neurologist” and HE gave her a referral! Why Dr Quadir did not know this is shocking!!! I don’t expect family doctors to know everything, but even I had a suspicion that it was a neurologist that she needed to see. My mom finally saw the neurologist 15 months after her first symptoms and he said “I’m so sorry you suffered this long. The condition I believe you have can be treated easily with drugs”. A couple weeks later, my mom passed away waiting for confirmation of the diagnosis and treatment. The condition had progressed so far that her ability to breath was severely compromised. I do not think Dr Quadir is competent and she should not be practicing medicine (you don’t tell a patient they are just old). I don’t expect a family doctor to know everything, but googling her symptoms would even point to a neurologist.
