Your eyes have clear liquid that flows in and out, but if you have glaucoma, this liquid doesn’t drain properly, causing this buildup of IOP pressure. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve, which is made up of nerve fibers and transmits images from the eye to your brain. If you have a condition known as ocular hypertension, which is a result of high ocular pressure, your risk of developing glaucoma increases.Your optometrist or ophthalmologist may want to lower your IOP as a preventative measure.

Our eye works a lot like a camera. In order for us to see clearly, the Cornea has light has to be focused by a lens. We are all born with a lens inside our eye that does this job for us and in early life it is crystal clear. As we age, this lens can become cloudy and begin to block light or create blur. We call this change in the lens a “cataract”.

Fortunately, cataracts are treatable through surgery. During cataract surgery, the clouded lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This procedure is highly successful in restoring clear vision for most people, allowing them to see more clearly and improve their quality of life.

I went to see Dr. Mills starting in November of 2021. I was referred to him by my eye doctor because I had macular degeneration in both of my eyes. Dr. Mills didn't speak to me the entire time throughout the procedure or afterward. Dr. Mills gave me an injection in my right eye and I was quite startled and was in a massive amount of pain to the point where I screamed on the chair. Immediately after the injection someone was talking to him from the other room and he put a patch on my eye and left the room. 5 minutes later he returned to the room, took the patch off and I was so distraught I couldn't believe what had happened. I went home and I was okay, but I was very upset over the entire interaction. On December 23rd of that year I was supposed to have an injection on my left eye. Instead I went to his office and he titled me up on the chair and stood near the bottom of the chair and he did not do anything whatsoever. No injection was provided and he again did not speak one single word to me. I went home and I could see fine, however a couple of days later I started feeling pain in my right eye and I started losing my vision. I had an appointment with Sunnybrook hospital virtually and the intern doctor told me to go to the Toronto Western Hospital and the Doctor in the emergency department there informed me immediately that I had an extremely severe eye infection as soon as he saw me. Dr. Mills was clearly negligent in this case as he never informed me of the potential consequences of the procedure as he never explained to me what he was doing after as well as before the procedure as I mentioned previously. I blindly trusted Dr. Mills to be in my best interest and he clearly was not. His malicious behaviour and lack of communication has now left my vision severely impaired to the point that I am now legally blind and I will need to continue to get injections in my eye for the rest of my life from a different ophthalmologist. I now can no longer drive and have to walk to pick up my groceries/medications etc.
