For active people such as hockey players they want to concentrate on having a healthy meal about three to four hours before their practice or event.

This is to ensure proper digestion so that you can feel your game. What you do want to avoid is eating a large meal that's heavy in fat and avoid alcohol one to two hours before you actually play. This can affect your blood pressure and increase your health risks.

For more information on proper nutrition for hockey talk to your local sport nutritionist or exercise specialist.
