Dr. Sanjay Ram Bio

Dr. Sanjay Mohan Ram was born and raised in Singapore, and graduated in 1997 from UBC with a B.Sc. (Hon.) in Human Physiology. Dr. Mohan Ram went on to complete his training in Naturopathic Medicine at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM), and was in the first BINM graduating class in May 2004. Dr. Mohan Ram's areas of interest in Naturopathic Medicine include: I work alongside patients by conducting naturopathic testing, supplementation, and Intra-venous treatments to achieve personal health goals. My mission is to provide a comprehensive approach to naturopathic medicine that gets to the root of my patients health concerns and provides effective long-term solutions. My focus of practice offers and some of the most common concerns my patients have: Gut Health, Digestive Conditions, Food Allergy Testing and Treatment Weight Loss through Clinical Nutrition & Diet Therapy Men and Women’s Health with Hormonal Testing and Treatment Adjunctive Naturopathic Anti-Aging and Anti-Cancer Treatments Intravenous (IV) Vitamin and Mineral Treatments Cardiovascular Disease Treatment and Prevention Chronic Conditions: Diabetes, Arthritis, Skin and Autoimmune Conditions Neurological Conditions: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis Neural Therapy for Chronic Injuries, Pain and Scar Tissue Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine One of the most important philosophies of my practice is that true wellness is achieved through a balanced, healthy and happy lifestyle. Personally, I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors, trying new restaurants and playing volleyball in a competitive league. An overarching focus of my practice is helping patients find a similar balance that is functional, non-restrictive and fits their lifestyle. Additionally, my approach to Naturopathic Medicine concentrates on providing my patients with quality health care that is equally proactive and supportive in achieving optimum health. Family medical history, diet, short-term health concerns and long-term health goals are all important questions I ask my patients in their initial assessments. In conjunction, I see value in naturopathic testing and making an assessment based off of actual results. This approach supports an ideal marriage between conventional and naturopathic medicine that allows each treatment plan I make to be unique to the condition and experience of each patient, while being supported by evidence-based medicine. Aside from my practice at Crossroads Naturopathic, I have always been committed to giving back and being an active member within the Naturopathic Medical profession. I try and achieve this as a Senior Instructor at CCNM-Boucher, where I teach several medical physiology and pathology classes to 1st and 2nd year students. Additionally, I work as an elected member of the CNPBC Board of Directors and Chair of the College of Naturopathic Physicians Examination Committee. Let’s meet and talk about how we can work together to achieve wellness for YOU. "Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." Jim Ro

One of the most common conditions women experience during their first trimester of their pregnancy is nausea and vomiting and although it is quite normal, it can cause women a lot of stress and fatigue as well as a loss of a lot of nutrients and fluids.

The cause isn’t fully understood. However, it’s mainly due to the increase – the exponential increase of hormones experienced during this time, mainly HCG, estrogen, and progesterone. These hormones have effects on all other cells in the body as well which can cause some of these gastrointestinal symptoms women feel.

Although nausea can be very frustrating and tiring for women, there are a lot of treatment options to help. Simple things like changing your diet and your lifestyle can make a huge impact, like having regular exercise or ensuring that there’s always food in your stomach. Having an empty stomach can actually make the nauseating symptoms much more severe. So keeping a snack in your purse or in your car will help alleviate some of these symptoms.

Dehydration is common in women with increased nausea and vomiting so it’s really important to find ways to replenish fluid in the body. If you’re not able to keep water down or have trouble taking in water, intravenous vitamin therapy is a great alternative.

With this treatment, your naturopathic doctor can also infuse vitamins directly into your blood stream. Vitamins such as B6 and B12 will help decrease the nauseous feeling as well as increase energy throughout your pregnancy. Again, it depends on the patient. And we often will design very specific treatment plans in terms of supplements and dietary change to help with these symptoms.  Lab tests, of course, play a big role in diagnosing digestive issues. So, we would look at systemic levels of inflammation. We can also measure hydrogen and methane on the breath to determine if there are any microorganisms contributing to these symptoms.  If you’re experiencing digestive issues of any kind and you’d like to learn more about what’s causing these symptoms, see your local naturopathic doctor.
