Dr. Erika Kuehnel Bio

Dr. Kuehnel is a Canadian trained chiropractor & registered massage therapist, fully registered with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario and College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and a member of the Ontario and Canadian Chiropractic Associations and the Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario. She completed her acupuncture training through McMaster University in Hamilton. Dr. Kuehnel has been practicing in Milton since 2008 and opened MiltonBackDoc at #4-69 Main St E, in the Milton Medical buildings in October of 2013. As a chiropractor & registered massage therapist, Dr. Kuehnel focuses on musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, not only related to the spine but throughout the body. She is a strong advocate for self-care and treatment and will instruct you on what you can do to help improve your condition or alleviate your symptoms. People who are active in treating themselves show much better rates of recovery! Dr. Kuehnel is available for appointments on select Thursday mornings. Massage Style Dr. Kuehnel was a chiropractor first, and became a massage therapist because she valued the contribution of massage therapy to a comprehensive treatment plan for musculoskeletal complaints. Her style is generally firm with more specific contacts, brisk without being rapid, and incorporates joint mobilization, distraction and assisted stretching. She incorporates traditional Swedish techniques along with non-Swedish techniques such as myofascial release techniques, cross-fibre frictions and trigger point therapy. She believes that home exercise and stretching, postural education, and activity modification (advice on how to change what you're doing to help control and reduce symptoms) is paramount to self-management of any musculoskeletal complaint. Education Dr. Kuehnel completed an honours undergraduate degree in Life Sciences at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. During that time, she worked with the physical and occupational therapy department at Kingston General Hospital, and with the anatomy department in the Queen’s School of Medicine. In 2007, Dr. Kuehnel graduated from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, which remains one of the most research-focused chiropractic institutions in the world. She completed her certification in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture through McMaster University in 2007 and her training in massage therapy with the Ontario College of Health and Technology in 2011-2012. She has continued her education, participating in many continuing education courses while maintaining an active practice. Dr. Kuehnel is published in the Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association (March, 2008).

It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
