Dr. Dave Unger continues to see his long time patients at Aquarius Medical Clinic, but mainly works at St. Paul’s Hospital. He has worked as an Emergency Room physician, and a community based family practitioner. He has worked in urban and rural settings, and has worked throughout Northern Canada. His practice has, at different times, focused on emergency medicine, obstetric and maternity care, and sports medicine. His clinical work is currently divided between outpatient practice and working with vulnerable marginalized populations living with HIV/AIDS and addiction. He is a Clinical Associate at the St. Paul’s Hospital Urban Health and Infections Unit, and he is a Clinical Instructor through the UBC Department of Family Medicine. He completed a Master’s Degree in Bioethics at the Alden March Bioethics Institute through the Albany Medical School in New York. He has been the Physician Ethicist for Providence Health Care since 2001, and has been director of Ethics Services since 2014. He is the ethicist for the Providence Health Care Research Institution Research Ethics Board, and the ethicist for the BC Centre for Disease Control. He is the author of The Canadian Bioethics Companion, an online textbook of bioethics in Canada.
