Asthma is a common respiratory disease.

It's thought to affect up to one in ten patients. It presents in three or four different ways. It presents with cough, and quite often this is a prolonged cough that people develop after having developed a cough, or cold or a fever.

It can present with wheezing, it can present with chest tightness, it can present with shortness of breath.

If you have symptoms of asthma, you should always start off with your family physician, who may be able to treat you as asthma is a very common condition. If you have more severe asthma, they may send you to a respiratory specialist.
