  After retirement I was diagnosed as having lung cancer. Yukon Health sent me to the BCCancer Agency for more tests. It was Dr. Shaipanich's assignment to scrutinize these tests. He knew immediately that the increasing nodes on my lungs were not cancer, so my plan was to go back home rest in my weakened state. He told me to come to his hospital in Vancouver the next day. St. Paul's was over crowded, but he insisted that I wait in Emergency until they admitted me. In the meantime he told his supervisor. 13 hours later I was given a bed, not in the respiratory ward, but a bed nonetheless. I won't try to explain the unbearable pain of having one of my lungs explode the next day, but I will tell you that the great team of teaching physicians at St. Paul's loves a mystery man, who carries an illness that can't be identified. After having myriad tests and being seen by many specialists, it was Dr. Shaipanich who identified the Lemierre's syndrome, sometimes called the forgotten syndrome from the 19th century, because it almost disappeared with the introduction of penicillin. His astute observations saved my life.

  I had Dr. Shaipanich performed two procedures, on both occasions, as well as on assessment a d follow u meetings, I found first rate professional and personal service, rarely experienced to such high level. Moreover, Dr. Shaipanich and his OR attendant work together as a very competent team, totally synchronized in the process of the procedure I experienced on two occasions. We are fortunate to have such competent people working for us in Vancouver.
