I went to visit Dr. Benayoun on the 22 Dec 2015, when I had heaviness in my testes. The consultation lasted no longer than 5-10 minutes. He rolled his eyes at me when I told him my testes had become smaller. When asked how long I felt this way, I responded that my testes were often sore, but that the change in size was recent. I told him a was very concerned because I always wanted children and I was to be married the following year. He told me to take an ultra sound, but most likely that nothing would be found. He told me, in the rudest way, that there was no problem and made me feel like I was wasting his time. My testes were found to be smaller than average with “micro-calcification.” But, despite this I was given no direction. It’s somewhat “normal” I was told. It doesn’t mean anything. As time went on, I went to see other urologists who didn’t show much concern after I told them “I saw a urologist before.” When they would ask what he thought, I replied “that he didn’t think there was a problem.” They then would mimic the same sentiment. I now know I am infertile and can’t have children. I am told my testicles are no longer producing healthy sperm, and that the atrophy may have been caused by an infection. However there is no certainty. The condition has affected my hormone production and I now have aches from the hormonal imbalance. Although I can live with these aches, my testes and my body are constantly uncomfortable. I also now have a lot of difficulty sleeping at night because of my hormones. At this point, I am told there is nothing that can be done about my condition as it is irreversible. I am only 35 years old. While I know it is not Dr. Benayoun fault that I may have had an infection, It takes every part of my being to forgive doctors like Dr. Benayoun for continuing to see me as just another man complaining about the size of his testes. I just pray that other young men receive their medical service with dignity.
