Dr. Michael Lock, Oncologist, London, ON

Dr. Michael Lock is the Chief of the Division of Radiation Oncology at London Health Science Centre. He is a staff radiation oncology consultant in the Department of Oncology and an Associate Scientist with the Lawson Health Research Institute. His roles have included the Medical Director of the London Regional Cancer Program, Chair of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Disease Site Team, Chair of the Radiation Oncology Provincial Advisory Committee, and Southwest Regional Radiation Oncology Lead. In addition, he is an Associate Professor at Western University in the Schulich School of Medicine. He is cross-appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics.  Dr. Lock specializes primarily in patients with cancers of the urologic system, liver cancers and breast cancers. He has a special interest in intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT-also called stereotactic ablative radiotherapy SABR). He has specialized training in the use of arc-based high precision therapy and imaging. He undertook fellowship training in Madison Wisconsin during the development of the groundbreaking Tomotherapy System (//www.tomotherapy.com) and treated the first patient using this system. Dr. Lock leads the Hepatic Investigation Program (HIP) and has been a champion for the implementation of new techniques to treat this devastating cancer. Dr. Lock treated one of the first liver patients treated in Canada with SBRT. He works on global projects for organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). This includes medical outreach programs in regions such as Malawi, Africa.
