Dr Martin Desrosiers is an ear nose and throat surgeon (ENT) specialized in medical problems of the nose and sinuses and in endoscopic anterior skull base surgery for inflammatory disease and tumors. Dr Desrosiers did both his medical and speciality training at the Université de Montréal, and complemented these with a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. In addition to his clinical activities, for the past 20 years he has lead research efforts into improving our understanding of sinusitis, which has contributed to his recognition worldwide as an international expert in sinus disease. He is affiliated with the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), where he holds the title of Clinical Professor. He sees patients on Wednesday mornings and welcomes new referrals for sinus-related issues.

Research Interests

Understand the mechanisms of development and persistence of chronic rhinosinusitis by studying the bacterial environment of the sinuses, genetic factors that confer susceptibility to chronic rhinosinusitis, molecular mechanisms of chronic rhinosinusitis, and more recently, epithelial responses to bacteria and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Development of probiotic bacteria as therapy for chronic rhinosinusitis. Identify potential pharmacological targets to better treat patients refractory to medical and surgical treatments. Evaluation of new treatments by participation in clinical trials on chronic rhinosinusitis
