Dr. Leah Barbaro Bio

Dr. Leah Barbaro is a dedicated chiropractor who received her Doctorate of Chiropractic with magna cum laude honors from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2017. Her passion for chiropractic care developed during her intensive four-year program and internships, where she gained valuable experience at St. Michael's Family Health Team, CMCC, and Total Rehab Clinic in Ajax. Prior to her chiropractic studies, Dr. Leah obtained an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University. During her time at McMaster, she served as a Sports Therapist, working closely with various sports teams, including Women's Lacrosse, Men's Rugby, and Men's Football. Her experience in sports therapy sparked her interest in helping individuals optimize their health and well-being. Dr. Leah is committed to continuous learning and professional development. She has certifications in Contemporary Neurofunctional Medical Acupuncture, Standard First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid. She actively seeks additional education and has completed courses in Integrated Therapeutics, Integrated Patterning, Functional Biomechanical Assessment, and Exercise Muscle Testing. Growing up in a family that embraced alternative forms of medicine, Dr. Leah learned the importance of healthy eating habits, supplements, and alternative healing modalities from an early age. Her personal experiences with naturopaths and reiki practitioners instilled in her a deep appreciation for holistic care. Driven by her desire to help others feel aligned, healthy, and whole, she embarked on a career in health and wellness. During her final year of chiropractic college, Dr. Leah had the serendipitous encounter with Dr. Stephanie Canestraro. Sharing the same passions and dedication to helping others, they formed a strong professional connection. Dr. Leah shadowed Dr. Stephanie and became her trusted colleague, working together for four years to provide comprehensive care to patients with various health concerns and athletes of different levels. This collaboration opened Dr. Leah's eyes to the broader spectrum of alternative medicine practices, inspiring her curiosity in Functional Medicine. Currently, Dr. Leah is pursuing certification in Functional Medicine through Functional Medicine University. Her chiropractic practice has reinforced her understanding of the interconnectedness of the body, making Functional Medicine a natural extension of her holistic approach to patient care. Dr. Leah believes in a collaborative and patient-centered approach, aligning with Dr. Stephanie's philosophy at the Vagus Clinic, which emphasizes healing the gut and addressing the root causes of health issues.

It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
