Dr. Laura McKeown Bio

Dr. Laura McKeown was born in Cobourg and has been a resident of Northumberland County her entire life. Dr. McKeown holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree with an Honours in Kinesiology from Ontario Tech University, formerly the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. She holds a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). Dr. McKeown completed her first year of University at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. She then transferred to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology where she enrolled in the pathway program to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Dr. McKeown completed her Animal Chiropractic studies at the Veterinary Chiropractic Learning Centre in Brantford, ON while in her fourth year at CMCC. The Animal Chiropractic Certification was a hands-on course with over 220 hours of study, with a focus on equine and canine health. From an early age Dr. McKeown knew she wanted to work with animals. When she found out she could combine her passion of helping animals with her interest in health sciences, Animal Chiropractic was the perfect fit! Dr. McKeown primarily treats horses, dogs and cats for muscle and joint injuries. Dr. McKeown treats small animals at All Creatures Great and Small in downtown Cobourg. She travels to barns in Northumberland County, Peterborough, Quinte, and Durham to treat horses. Dr. McKeown also offers house calls for small animals whose owners and/ or pets find coming into the office to be a challenge. Dr. McKeown has always been an animal lover. She began horseback riding at the age of eleven. She was an active member of the Arête de Chêne pony club for years and received her D2 level. She competed in many local shows, the Prince Philip Games and Le Trec. Dr. Mckeown grew up around lots of animals and has had a family dog for most of her life. Dr. McKeown’s dog has participated in shows and agility trials. Dr. McKeown is a member of the Ontario Chiropractic Association, Canadian Chiropractic Association and the College of Chiropractors Ontario. In her free time Dr. McKeown enjoys cycling, hiking, yoga, reading and spending time with her partner, family, and family dog. Dr. McKeown is quite familiar with Northumberland County and all it has to offer. She has formed many relationships with Northumberland County residents while living in the area. Dr. McKeown looks forward to re-connecting with those contacts as she grows her practice and volunteers in this great community.
