Dr. Gordon Cushing Bio

Health and wellness has always been a passion for Dr. Gord. From hockey rinks to the gym to the track to the golf course, he has participated in many sports and fitness activities, which drove him to a career where he could assist others in improving their state of health. While working on a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa, he worked as a Personal Trainer using exercise and nutrition to improve his clients' fitness levels. For himself, he traded in his track spikes for long distance runners and completed the Ottawa National Capital Marathon in 1992. In his third year, he was introduced to Chiropractic after a lower back injury and after just a few adjustments, he found a career where he could live his passion everyday. So, another four years of schooling lay ahead at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. After graduating in 1999, Dr. Gord commenced his Chiropractic practice in an associateship position in Brockville with Dr. David Pickett which led to purchasing the practice a few years later. As Dr. Gord and his wife Sophie (who was a Registered Massage Therapist at the time) grew the clinic by offering more services and attracting a larger client base, a move was made to their 3000 sq ft facility at their current location in Waltham Square in Brockville's north end. "At Brockville Chiropractic and Health Associates, improving your family's quality of life is our priority" is their mission and they strive to do that with every patient. From the weekend warrior to an elite athlete, from the grandparent to a child, from the production worker to someone with a desk job, Dr. Gord and his staff work tirelessly to that end. When he is not at the clinic, Dr. Gord and Sophie (now a Hearing Instrument Specialist and owner/operator of Thousand Islands Hearing Centre) stay busy with their three children: Sarah, Claire and Ethan. All of whom participate in a variety of sports and extracurricular activities. Dr. Gord and family are proud to call themselves Brockvillians and support the community in many ways as often as they can (ie service clubs – Kinsmen and Rotary, Big Brothers Big Sisters, charity events, sponsorships and coaching sports).

It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
