Leg Bracing

A leg brace is designed to support and stabilize your leg if you have a health condition or injury. There are many reasons why people might wear leg braces, including:

  • To stabilize the leg after a sprain, fracture or break
  • To immobilize the leg or knee after surgery, ACL or MCL, or menisus tears
  • To support the leg if you have a condition like rheumatoid arthritis

No matter why you wear a leg brace, there are a number of benefits, including:

  • Improved balance
  • Pain reduction
  • Prevention of further injury
  • Better mobility

Leg Bracing and Exercise

While using a leg brace is helpful, it’s important to work on strengthening your leg or knee, too. Before getting started, talk to your doctor or surgeon. It’s essential that you do safe and effective exercises to avoid injury. Depending on your condition or injury, exercises like a single leg stand, leg squats, hamstring stretches or standing lunges might be good to try. Exercise can also boost your mental health, which may be affected after a surgery or accident.

Walker Boots

If you’ve got a fracture in your foot, or your lower leg, you may get a walker boot. Some examples include if you have a fracture that's in the forefoot like a fifth metatarsal fracture, stress fracture, or bunion surgery recovery.
If you need a walker boot, it's important to try some different ones on to get the best fit.

If you’d like more information about leg bracing, talk to your local physician or bracing specialist.
