Treatment Approach
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a therapeutic approach containing many interventions and techniques with demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. Treatment focuses on identifying patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and learning how each dimension impacts one another.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is . . . .
• Evidence-based: Research and scientific studies support the use of CBT as “best practice” for various psychological conditions, including anxiety and mood disorders.
• Collaborative: We will work together to explore, test, and modify problematic patterns of behavior and thought. As you are the expert in terms of your experiences, your input is essential. I am able to offer expert knowledge regarding how to improve emotional problems.
• Skills based: My task is to teach you new skills and techniques to help you gain confidence in your ability to manage obstacles and decrease symptoms independently, teaching you to become your own therapist. This requires active participation in practicing skills both in and out of session.
• Present focused: Therapy tends to focus on the here and now, seeking to understand and modify factors that are currently maintaining problems. Developmental history may be useful to explore but does not tend to be the focus of therapy.
• Short term: Therapy tends to be time-limited, encouraging clients to try new skills out on their own once they have gained new understanding and demonstrated ability to successfully manage difficulties.
Specific Interventions Practiced:

• Cognitive Therapy
• Exposure and Response Prevention
• Behavioral Activation
