Dr. Emilie Salomons’ passion lies in gynaecology, fertility, mental health and obstetrics. Aside from training under and working with some of the top Chinese medicine gynaecology, fertility and pregnancy specialists in the world, Dr. Emilie is also a birth Doula. First registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture of BC, in 2005, Dr. Emilie spent 10 years practicing out of Acubalance Wellness Centre, the leading integrative reproductive wellness centre in BC, before moving to Oak Integrative Health, in Burnaby, where she is dedicated to helping people achieve their dreams of having healthy, happy families, and optimal personal health and wellbeing. Emilie also works at the BC Women's and Children's Hospital as the contract resident acupuncturist for the Families In Recovery Unit (FIR).
As a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Emilie is a registrant in good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture of BC. After graduating from her 5-year Doctor of TCM program, she spent eight months in Beijing, China, doing postgraduate studies at the Dongzhimen University Hospital.
Emilie is the Co-President of the Obstetrical Acupuncture Association (OBAA), and was a fellow of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine from 2011 to 2021. She has also co-developed and teaches the first Acupuncture training program for Midwives in Canada.
In 2015, Emilie became a cluster lead for Maternal and Infant Health Canada, based out of the University of British Columbia. MIH Can is composed of a group of physicians, researchers and academics, whose aim is to find innovative ways to reduce maternal and infant mortality locally and around the world. For the past 3 years Emilie has acted as a guest mentor for the international Maternity Acupuncture Mentorship & Peer Support program. Most recently in 2021, Emilie became a cluster member of the UBC Research Excellence Cluster, Advancing the Science of Physiological Birth.
In keeping with her commitment to work at the community level, Emilie has volunteered several times in Uganda, Nepal, India and Mexico, teaching Nurses, Midwives, OBs, allied health workers and Traditional African Medicine Practitioners. She has also worked and volunteered at St. Paul’s hospital treating patients in palliative care and as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist in Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey and at the Lincoln Detox Center, in the Bronx, New York.
Emilie lives in New Westminster with her husband and their two children.
