Dr. Nathan Perlis MD, MSC, FRCSC Urologist, Toronto completed his medical school, urology residency and urological oncology fellowship training at the University of Toronto. During residency, he pursued the Surgeon Scientist Training Program where he completed a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology and focused on quantifying patient-level quality of life assessments. During his fellowship, his clinical and research interests focused on prostate cancer, including: bio-markers, risk assessment, novel technologies for partial gland ablation, and robotic surgery. Medications like alpha blockers don't actually treat BPH, they treat the symptoms by relaxing the muscle around the urethra, so thereby reducing some of the resistance.

Sometimes we will add in a second line medication in order to try and shrink the prostate. These medications are called the five alpha reductase inhibitors. So we have Proscar or Avodart These are medications which work by lowering the conversion of testosterone within the prostate. Over a period of 6 to 12 months, this can shrink the prostate by around 20%.

    I have never been treated with more respect and care as Dr. Perlis has given me. After biopsy cancer was found, he recommended me to a clinical trial with Nano Knife. Everything was fully explained to me in great detail, any question was always answered professionally. At the hospital - this is for Toronto General, who did an extremely professional job from admission to departure. Dr. Perlis spoke to me before surgery made sure I was good to go. I woke up and an hour later was leaving. He has followed up with a very positive attitude, he is a joy to speak with. I am sorry to the poster who had a negative experience. I never had any issues at all. Thanks Dr. Keep up the great work, we need many more like you!

    I have deep concerns regarding the care Dr. Nathan Perlis has provided for my father. From the first day he was seen by Dr.Perlis, our concerns were not only not addressed, but they were not listened to. This got to the point that the Medical Oncologist contacted Dr. Perlis expressing their similar concerns to no avail. Dr. Perlis was told explicitly by my father that he was not comfortable with a procedure. To our shock, that procedure was still scheduled and performed without our knowledge (we thought he was having one of his regularly scheduled procedures). We were not given notice or take home instructions regarding the procedure and this ultimately led to my father going into septic shock and nearly ending his life. At our next appointment, Dr. Perlis was not even aware of the near death experience that is clearly indicated in his file, and he walked out of the room when trying to discuss what happened. This infection impacted his cancer care and eventually led to disease progression. He has shown a blatant disregard for my fathers care from start to finish.

    I saw Dr. Nathan Perlis MD, MSC, FRCSC, Local Urologist, Toronto, Ontario ON. I had an enlarged prostate. Dr. Perlis prescribed further testing and treated my enlarged prostate with laser therapy. I'd recommend Dr. Perlis to you if you have an enlarged prostate.
