Dr. Michael Gotuaco Bio

Dr. Mike, originally from Collingwood, has an impressive educational and athletic background. He graduated from Queen's University in 2011 with dual degrees in Biology and Phys-Ed and then completed chiropractic college in Toronto in 2015. After spending six years in Victoria, BC, he has returned home and is excited to be a part of the Active Life Conditioning community. Growing up, Dr. Mike was involved in various sports, including mountain biking, cross country skiing/biathlon, rugby, volleyball, and golf. His main passion was freestyle snowboarding, which he pursued on an international level. Following a series of concussions, he decided to transition his passion for sports and healthy living into a career as a chiropractor. Dr. Mike's patient care approach involves a thorough assessment of the issue, including a detailed history and movement-based physical examination. He develops treatment plans based on individual goals and the best available research. His treatments encompass spine and extremity manipulations/mobilizations, soft tissue therapies (such as Graston, Cupping, and fascial manipulation), contemporary acupuncture, and exercise prescription. His goal is to alleviate pain, restore function, and facilitate a quick return to optimal performance. His favorite quote, "A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops at the trunk. A sage digs the roots" by Lorn Au Arcos, reflects his approach of addressing the root cause of issues. He has a fondness for his mom's homemade lasagna and enjoys a range of outdoor activities like surfing, mountain biking, snowboarding, and golf. Dr. Mike's certifications and special interests include Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) Certified Mobility Specialist, Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) Certified, Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, and more. He also has a publication on perceptions and physical activity habits in students at CMCC. In summary, Dr. Mike brings a wealth of experience, a passion for sports, and a commitment to evidence-based care to his practice. His multi-faceted approach to treatment, encompassing various techniques and modalities, makes him a valuable asset to the Active Life Conditioning team and the Collingwood community.

It's great that you're considering chiropractic care for various conditions. Chiropractors can indeed provide treatments to address neuromusculoskeletal issues, including those related to scoliosis, hip and pelvis pain, and shoulder arthritis. However, it's important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as a local chiropractor, to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for your specific situation.

For scoliosis, chiropractic care may involve spinal adjustments and exercises aimed at improving posture and reducing spinal curvature. A chiropractor can assess the severity of scoliosis and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.

In the case of hip and pelvis pain, chiropractors can assess the underlying cause of the pain and provide treatments such as spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercises, and other modalities to alleviate symptoms and promote healing.

Regarding shoulder arthritis, chiropractors may offer non-surgical treatment options to help manage the condition. These options can include rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), chiropractic adjustments to improve range of motion, corticosteroid injections, and heat/cold therapy. However, the specific treatment plan would depend on the individual's condition and should be discussed with a chiropractor.

Remember, while chiropractic care can be beneficial for many individuals, it's important to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure that the treatments are appropriate for your specific needs. Consulting with a local chiropractor would allow you to discuss your condition in detail and determine the best course of action.
