Dr. Mark Godley is a practicing physician and founder of Vigilance Solutions, False Creek Surgical Centre, and Maples Surgical Centre and the Urgent Care Centre at False Creek.Born in South Africa, he received his medical degree – MB ChB – in 1987, from the University of Cape Town. He worked in general practice in Saskatchewan as a solo practitioner in a small town for 3 years. He obtained his Residency Training in Anesthesiology at the University of Alberta and University of British Columbia and went on to a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and is a practicing anesthesiology in British Columbia and Manitoba. He is also an elected member of the British Columbia Medical Association (BCMA) and is currently serving his second term. He also serves as a member of the Audit and Finance committee and the Medical Professionalism committee for the BCMA. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1989 he worked in the UK in the NHS and in private practice in South Africa. Dr. Godley is a well-known and outspoken vocal champion of patients’ rights. He is passionate in his belief that patients must once again be the focus of the Canadian healthcare system. In 1998, with his resolve to act on the belief that Canadians want and deserve choice in the healthcare services, he pioneered one of the first private hospitals in Canada. Today, False Creek Healthcare Centre is a 25,000 square-foot multi-speciality surgical and medical centre. Dr Godley’s unique vision now provides patients with a one stop vertical healthcare solution for local residents and foreign patients who are seeking a second opinion and access to advanced procedures. With Dr. Godley’s leadership, False Creek Surgical Centre continued to be the innovators by reducing wait lists, extending public healthcare through government contracts, and was the first to offer high field strength 3 Tesla MRI to the Canadian public. His efforts have also profoundly influenced healthcare delivery in Manitoba were he opened the Maples Surgical Centre and MRI suite. Through a strong public relation campaign and strong patient advocacy Dr. Godley secured a longterm healthcare contract with Manitoba Health and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authorities (WRHA). Today the Maples Surgical Centre is an integral part of daycare surgery in the province for wait-list reductions. In 2011 he designed and executed an ECHO contract with the WRHA and performed over 3000 ECHO procedures in 6 months. He also brought healthcare human resources to the province and provided anesthesia resources for the health authority as required. In 2010 and 2011 Dr. Godley and his colleagues actively researched CCSVI and Multiple Sclerosis using advanced MRI equipment at False Creek. Early in in his business development Dr. Godley recognized that patients can also be customers. With the healthcare industry having an immature customer relations platform he developed a partnership with Microsoft. Adapting Microsoft dynamics CRM he enabled better customer service for his patients and this effectively contributed to the successful rapid growth of his businesses. By combining high standards of professionalism and customer service False Creek Healthcare Centre is recognized as a viable choice for Canadian patients not able to access timely care in the universal public healthcare system. Dr. Godley keeps active and is a keen kite boarder and kite racer. He is also an inventor with two kiteboarding patents. He is married with 2 daughter and lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
