Dr. Ian Macdonald Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus Dr. Ian Macdonald is Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus at UBC, member of the Division of Cardiology at St. Paul’s Hospital with some activity at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital. He is a graduate of Queens University, Kingston, Ontario. He was commissioned as Sub Lieutenant in the RCN Reserve. After two years of post-graduate training, he and his wife, Helen (a classmate at Queens) practiced family medicine in Kitimat, B.C. for almost seven years. He then returned to St. Paul’s Hospital, completed training in general Internal Medicine and finished his Cardiology training at the Toronto Western Hospital. He is certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology with the RCPSC and similarly qualified in the USA. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He works mainly as a General Cardiologist in his office and at St. Paul’s Hospital. He interprets echocardiograms and does in-hospital consultations. He was the Chairman of the St. Paul’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for 25 years. He chaired the St. Paul’s Hospital annual course in Internal Medicine for Family Physicians for 25 years and he is the recipient of the Howard B. Stein Master Teacher Award. His wife Helen is a retired family physician. He has two sons, three grandchildren and another one expected this fall. He is interested in travel, skiing, and saltwater sailing.
