A local cardiologist can also work with your other healthcare providers, from your local registered dietitian to your local Pilates instructor.Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat, also called an arrhythmia, that can increase your risk of heart failure, stroke, blood clots and other heart conditions. A normal heart contracts and relaxes to a regular beat, but if you have atrial fibrillation, the atria (upper chambers) beat out of sync with the ventricles (lower chambers).

During a coronary angioplasty, a thin, flexible tube called a catheter is inserted into an artery, typically in the groin or wrist, and guided to the blocked or narrowed coronary artery. The catheter is equipped with a deflated balloon at its tip. Once the catheter reaches the target area, the balloon is inflated, which compresses the plaque against the artery walls and widens the artery, restoring blood flow.

In many cases, the angioplasty procedure is followed by the placement of a stent. A stent is a small, mesh-like metal tube that is inserted into the artery  of the heart after the balloon is inflated. The stent helps to keep the artery open and prevents it from re-narrowing. There are two main types of stents: bare-metal stents and drug-eluting stents. Drug-eluting stents are coated with medications that help reduce the risk of the artery re-narrowing.

Coronary angioplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia, and the patient is awake during the procedure. It is considered a minimally invasive procedure and has become a common treatment option for coronary artery disease. It can relieve symptoms such as chest pain (angina) and improve blood flow to the heart, thereby reducing the risk of heart attacks and other complications associated with CAD. Dr. Constance has been my cardiologist for a few years. He always answers all my questions in a clear manner. He’s always been a perfect gentleman and by this I mean he listens attentively, is respectful, professional, and polite. I’ve had other cardiologists who’ve either been dismissive with me, cold, or wouldn’t listen to my concerns. I even had one cardiologist who couldn’t remember I was his patient (he didn’t remember me) even though he was my doctor for 2 years!! Never had any problem with Dr. Constance. He knows his field and it shows! It’s re-assuring having him as my doctor. I spent over a year without seeing him due to the pandemic, and he called me personally wanting to check up on me. My family doctor never even calls to check up on me but he did! If you’re fortunate to have him as your doctor well, you’re in good hands.

In my experiences with Dr. Constance was rude and condescending and frequently offered unsolicited opinions on potential outcomes of some of my other health conditions, whereby he was almost always wrong. In every encounter I had with him (about 6 or 7) he always had a chronic habit of interrupting, not only the patient, but even his own colleagues. As if whenever anyone else tried to speak, you'd swear the only voice he was interested in hearing was his own. The final straw for me was his insistence on putting me back on a medication with side effects that I was not tolerating. It was not reassuring to know my well-being was partly in the hands of someone who tells a patient, "in your case we already know HOW you're going to die; what we don't know is WHEN." Seriously, even if it's true, who speaks to a patient in such a callous manner? Several years later I'm still alive, happy and healthy, under competent care elsewhere.
