Doreen (MacDonald) Hill Bio

am frequently asked how I came to be an Acupuncturist and what journey brought me to where I am today. You see, I worked for many years at Crown Corporation in Saskatchewan. As a student for life, I found that I was always taking one business class after another and often found myself attending night classes at the University of Regina and working full time. You might be wondering what would motivate someone to dig deep within themselves to find the drive and ambition to learn more skills over many years while still working full time. My driver, as it turned out, was the need to feel that what I did was important or actually made a difference for someone. Working for the corporate giants did not give me that sense of satisfaction. My soul needed a purpose – so I searched to find one. My first involvement in the field of alternative medicine was taking a 3-month course in Reflexology. I was amazed that it was effective and as a practitioner, I could make lasting improvements in the health of my patients. This was my first taste in feeling I was making a difference, and it felt good. In the spring of 2000, my family and I took the next big step when we moved from Saskatchewan to Greater Vancouver. We didn’t have a support network, but believed that this move was going to open doors for our small family. It was with much thought, research and trial and error that I came to discover acupuncture. Deep down in my soul I knew that this was the career path for me and I knew that I could have a positive influence on people’s health and offer healing. I was enrolled in a 4 year program and began studying in earnest. Studying full time and having two small children between the ages of 2 and 5 was challenging. As a family, we came out the other side intact. Thank goodness! I am very proud to say that I am Board Certified through the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA). After graduating, I apprenticed under two Chinese doctors, both experts in their field of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I have been in private practice since 2004, and I will take the time to do a thorough investigation of your condition and use a combination of herbal and homeopathic therapies plus assorted bodywork techniques. I treat many complaints experienced by women, especially age related conditions by women over the age of 30. These could be stress, lifestyle, hormonal or cosmetic in nature. I also see many conditions experienced by seniors well into their 90’s. I also I specialize in micro-current technologies – which is non-needle acupuncture. Cosmetic acupuncture treatments are an alternative to costly cosmetic procedures. You will look younger – possibly anywhere from 5 to 15 years younger, have more energy, be more relaxed and feel great! With this technology, I also treat skin lesions such as acne, rosacea and scar adhesions as well as whiplash, neck/shoulder pain and sciatica and lumbar pain. Another avenue I am aware of is the multitude of synthetic ingredients and chemicals found in over the counter skin care products. I now offer custom products to my clients based on their skin needs. I also carry medical grade Elastin and Collagen products that I use with my facial treatments. In closing, “my love of alternative health care began with reflexology and it has brought me into the world of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. I bring all of my alternative medicine background into my acupuncture treatment as I treat a multitude of health complaints.” Find out how other people have benefited from acupuncture by visiting my Testimonial Page or call today to begin to improve your health and well-being. On a Personal Note I believe in building a practice built on building relationships with my community. I live and work in New Westminster. I also do business with local businesses. Over the years I have been involved in many volunteer undertakings. I believe it is important to give back to my community. I have been actively involved in numerous local fundraising and volunteer events for many years. Here is a list of my local volunteer activities Managing the concession booth for Hyack Football Club home games for three consecutive years. This was so much fun! Donating Gift Certificates for various organizations for their fundraising activities. I always feel good about donating my services in Gift Certificates. Volunteering my acupuncture skills for Beauty Night Society on a monthly basis. Very rewarding! In a nutshell, I love living in New Westminster and I enjoy being part of this great community. Doreen is Results Driven Many people have been cured of their sciatica pain after a couple of treatments, even if they have had the pain for years. Neck, back and shoulder pain is gone. Clients even find their posture improves and they feel taller. Sessions can be used as active therapy or for maintenance.
