Allergists are medical doctors who have completed medical school and specialized training in the field of immunology, with a specific focus on diagnosing and treating allergies and related conditions. After completing their medical degree, allergists usually pursue a residency program in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics, followed by additional fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology.

During their training, allergists learn about the immune system and its response to allergens, such as pollen, dust mites, food, medications, and insect venom. They acquire the skills necessary to diagnose and manage various allergic conditions, including allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, atopic dermatitis (eczema), food allergies, drug allergies, and immune system disorders.

Allergists are well-versed in conducting allergy testing, both through skin tests and blood tests, to identify specific allergens causing an individual's allergic reactions. Based on the diagnosis, they develop personalized treatment plans, which may involve allergen avoidance strategies, medication prescriptions (such as antihistamines or inhalers), immunotherapy (allergy shots or sublingual tablets), or education on managing allergic reactions.

By receiving specialized training in immunology and allergies, allergists are equipped to provide comprehensive care for patients dealing with allergic conditions, helping them effectively manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
