Sitting is one of the biggest detriments to having good posture.

When we sit all day, we very much shorten the hip flexors in the front of the body, round the upper back muscles, and get the neck in a forward position. Our gluteal, hamstrings and lower back are not working at all, but simply getting tighter and tighter as we sit.

When we do stand up, we may put extra pressure on our knees, feet and lower back. What we need to be doing is standing nice and tall, getting our shoulders and arms moving, and slowing to a long, easy gait, with the back muscles working and helping us to straighten up and get nice and tall again.
