Leflunomide is a medication that you take as a pill, typically either every day, every other day. Leflunomide is used commonly for rheumatoid arthritis, while it may be used for other types of inflammatory arthritis, such as psoriatic arthritis.

Leflunomide comes in a pill – either a 10 milligram or a 20 milligram pill. And typically your rheumatologist will ask you to start at a lower dose – perhaps 10 milligrams a day, and then if you’re tolerating it well, increase to 20 milligrams a day.

Leflunomide works slowly, so like other medications if you start leflunomide it may be several weeks to several months before it has an effectiveness. And so again you need to be patient when you’re starting leflunomide for looking for it’s effectiveness.
