Many patients have concerns regarding the pump, whether it will work in the shower or while they're swimming.

Some of the manufacturers guarantee that their pumps are water resistant upon leaving factory. But because the pumps use only fast-acting insulin, one could detach the pump from their infusion site for up to an hour without concern for their blood glucose levels.

So this would apply for someone who's having a quick shower, going swimming, having sex, or any other activity that they may not want the pump attached to themselves.

Once that hour is over the patient then has to reattach the pump to their site or would have to start monitoring their blood glucose levels frequently.

If you have any further questions about detaching your pump for an exteneded period of time, the best people to talk to are your insulin pump trainer or your diabetes clinical care team.
