I think it’s because until recently, we’ve treated mental illnesses in the same way that we treat physical ailments. So telling someone with depression that they should just “Oh, just deal with it, you’re fine” or “We’ll stick a Band-Aid on it.”
It doesn’t really work that way, and it’s not just, there’s no quick fix for something like that. It’s not like a broken arm where you put it into a cast.
You have to actually spend the time to go through the steps to get the right treatment and help. It’s a case-by-case basis, so there’s not one solution for everybody.
