If you’re considering stopping methotrexate, generally it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor first, because if you stop the medication the disease may come back. If you’re going to stop the medication, sometimes it’s a better idea to reduce the dose.
And if you’re on a dose of let’s say 6 tablets weekly what you might want to consider is reducing the dose to 4 tablets once weekly. And then remember you need to wait a number of weeks - perhaps 6 weeks or 12 weeks to see whether the disease comes back.
If you have a concern about the medication, there’s no harm stopping the medication and then calling your doctor over the next few days or next few weeks and let them know you’ve stopped the medication and discussed what your concerns are.
If you have any questions or concerns about methotrexate, you should contact your healthcare practitioner or your specialist.
