Orthodontics is a patient who has what is referred to as a malocclusion or a bad bite.

Many of these patients are treated with just braces or orthodontics, however many require a surgical correction along with the orthodontics in order to establish a proper bite.

And here's an example of a malocclusion that we can see, and with surgical correction the jaw can be placed in this position here. It's a procedure that's commonly performed in a hospital setting and does require a recovery usually of one to two weeks before patients are back into their normal daily routine.
