Hypertension or high blood pressure is very common, and is a very important medical condition.
As physicians we use a system to approach blood pressure management. It’s the best way to prevent heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and a whole host of other problems that you experience later on.
Blood pressure management involves visiting your doctor twice a year. It’s very important that you sit down with your doctor, bring all your medications, and they will review a plan of action for you.
This plan of action is something you can take home with you to refer to later on, but it encompasses principles of self-management such as diet, and exercise. It reviews what your blood pressure readings are and should be. And it also talks about preventative health maneuvers like vaccination.
Finally, the reason why you need to sit down with your doctor at least twice a year is so they can do a good job renewing your medications, and ordering bloods tests that look for damage caused by high blood pressure.
It’s important if you have any questions or any concerns, that you make an appointment to speak to your physician or your local expert. Treatments vary according to patient as well as physician, so once again, make an appointment and speak to your physician.
