There are a number of things that increase your chance of a successful VBAC.
Well if you've given birth vaginally aside from the birth which resulted in a cesarean section then your chances are greater. If the cause of the cesarean section in the first place is not present this time, such as if the reason for the cesarean was a placenta previa, which is a low lying placenta, if that's not there this time then your likelihood is higher.
If you're under the age of 40, and if your labor begins spontaneously and isn't induced, and if your labor progresses normally, without the aid of any medication.
There are a number of factors that will decrease your likelihood of a successful vaginal birth after a c-section. One is if you've had more than one previous cesarean section, if you go past your due date, if your labour needs to be induced, if the mother is overweight, and if the estimated weight of the baby at the time of labor is over four kilograms.
Deciding on whether or not a vaginal birth after cesarean section is what you want is an important discussion to have with your caregiver. If you have any further questions please contact the midwife, obstetrician or family doctor that's taking care of you during the pregnancy.
