Sedation, oral sedation is when you use a medication to help with a dental treatment, to make it more comfortable and relaxing for the patient. The benefits of sedation are that some people really avoid dental treatment because of fear.

Another reason is because they can't tolerate the rubber dam, or perhaps they are hard to freeze. And as people get older they're more sensitive to the vasoconstrictors, so if you're sedated we can use less anesthetic, it's easier on your heart. And if the procedure goes really well, also it's better for your heart when you're in a relaxed condition when you're having your dental work done.

So sedation can be a real benefit for a lot of different reasons. Ask your dentist if sedation is right for you.
