Types of Hockey Equipment
Hockey is a high-energy and physically demanding sport. The proper equipment is important for both safety and comfort. Here are some popular types of hockey equipment for kids and adults:
- Helmets. A helmet protects your head, and often has a face shield or cage.
- Shoulder pads. Today's hockey shoulder pads have multi-segmented fronts, sternum and shoulder -protection, and increased high-density foams. They contain antimicrobial and antibacterial liner to help cut down on infections.
- Mouthguards. A mouthguard can help protect your teeth if there's an impact during the game. It also acts as a shock absorber on your jaw, so it may help prevent concussions.
- Shoulder and elbow pads. These will protect your shoulders and elbows if you get hit by the stick, puck or have a collision with another player.
- Neck guards. Some players wear a neck guard to protect them from injuries, including from other players' skates.
- Core shorts. These provide functional support to stabilize your hip and pelvic area. These form-fitting shorts may help you avoid groin injuries, low back pain, and other hockey-related injuries.
