Ms. Edwards was professional and gave us information in a very clear, kept us informed and visited regularly as my father was recovering from a quadruple by-pass and experienced post op problems. She was compassionate and professional.

My mother was not treated well at Southlake Regional Health Centre. The social worker as well as other health care professionals did not take the condition of my mother seriously and it appeared that they were following the policies of the hospital over professional code of ethics. My elderly mother was treated as a bed blocker. The team wanted to discharge my mother when she was still at risk for falling; my mother lost 7 lbs while in hospital. I had to advocate (the social worker's role) to ensure that my mother had the required physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and nutritional assessments before she was discharged. We had to ask for a family meeting. My mother's history with alcohol and smoking was raised constantly as if my mother was to blame for her illness. This was not a "person and family centred" experience.
