Dr. Mario Talajic Bio

Dr. Talajic is a cardiac electrophysiologist at the Montreal Heart Institute. He is the Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Université de Montréal and is the Director of the Cardiovascular Genetics Centre of the Montreal Heart Institute. His research interests include the pharmacologic treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation, and the stratification of patients at risk for sudden death. Dr. Talajic completed his medical training at the University of Ottawa in 1980, and internal medicine and cardiology training at McGill University in 1985. He subsequently completed fellowship training in cardiac electrophysiology at McGill University with Dr. Stanley Nattel and at the University of Limburg under the guidance of Professor Hein Wellens. Dr. Talajic has been a cardiac electrophysiologist at the Montreal Heart Institute since 1987 and became the first Philippa and Marvin Carsley Cardiology Chair in 2005. He has also been a Royal College examiner in cardiology and has won teaching and career achievement awards from the Université de Montréal, and has served on multiple peer-reviewed research committees in Canada. He is currently the vice-president and president-elect of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. Dr. Talajic has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and over 270 abstracts.

Le Dr Talajic est électrophysiologiste cardiaque à l'Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal. Il est directeur du Département de médecine de l'Université de Montréal et directeur du Centre de génétique cardiovasculaire de l'Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal. Ses intérêts de recherche comprennent le traitement pharmacologique des arythmies cardiaques, le traitement des patients atteints de fibrillation auriculaire et la stratification des patients à risque de mort subite. Le Dr Talajic a complété sa formation médicale à l'Université d'Ottawa en 1980 et sa formation en médecine interne et en cardiologie à l'Université McGill en 1985. Il a ensuite complété une formation postdoctorale en électrophysiologie cardiaque à l'Université McGill avec le Dr Stanley Nattel et à l'Université du Limbourg sous sous la direction du professeur Hein Wellens. Le Dr Talajic est électrophysiologiste cardiaque à l'Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal depuis 1987 et est devenu le premier titulaire de la chaire de cardiologie Philippa et Marvin Carsley en 2005. Il a également été examinateur du Collège royal en cardiologie et a remporté des prix d'enseignement et de carrière de l'Université de Montréal. Montréal et a siégé à plusieurs comités de recherche évalués par des pairs au Canada. Il est actuellement vice-président et président élu de la Société canadienne de cardiologie. Le Dr Talajic est l'auteur de plus de 180 articles et chapitres de livres évalués par des pairs et de plus de 270 résumés.
