Dr. John Watterson , Rheumatologist, Vancouver, BC  is a dedicated rheumatologist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He completed his medical school and Internal Medicine training at the University of British Columbia (UBC). After that, in 1999, Dr. Watterson obtained his Royal College Fellowship in Rheumatology and was recruited to the UBC Division of Rheumatology. Currently, Dr. Watterson holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine.

Dr. John Watterson , Rheumatologist, Vancouver, BC  takes pride in being a member of the Division of Rheumatology Postgraduate Committee, where he is involved in the recruitment, selection, and postgraduate training of young rheumatologists.

Dr. John Watterson , Rheumatologist, Vancouver, BC  also provides consultative services to the Vancouver General Hospital and actively participates in the medical training of students, core residents, and postgraduate trainees. Dr. Watterson is a Director at the ARTUS Health Centre, where his practice model emphasizes coordinated, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive care for individuals with rheumatic diseases. His professional interests primarily revolve around inflammatory arthritis, spondyloarthropathy, and osteoporosis. Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Watterson embraces the active lifestyle that British Columbia offers. Dr. John Watterson , Rheumatologist, Vancouver, BC  is an avid triathlete, kite sailor, and ocean kayaker. During the winter season, he enjoys snowshoeing and skiing in the North Shore and Whistler areas, often accompanied by his wife and two daughters. His ongoing research is in the areas of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis and the appropriate use of diagnostic tests in the management of connective tissue diseases.

Biosimilars are biological products used in the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis. They are biological products produced from pre-existing Biologics. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include joint pain, swelling and stiffness. At first, rheumatoid arthritis usually only attacks a few joints, but over time it affects more. Early treatment is important as it can make the disease more likely to go into remission. Unlike some other types of arthritis, the chronic swelling from RA can cause permanent damage to the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis treatments include disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), analgesics (painkillers) and biologics (medications produced from living organisms or components of living organisms).

Uric acid is a natural waste product that forms when the body breaks down purines, which are found in certain foods and are also produced by the body. Normally, the kidneys filter out the uric acid, and it is excreted in urine. However, in people with gout, either the body produces excessive uric acid or the kidneys are unable to remove it efficiently, resulting in high levels of uric acid in the blood.
