Dr. John Song Bio

Dr. John Song , Orthopaedic Surgeon, Welland obtained his Medical Degree from Queen’s University in 1993. He went on to residency at the University of Ottawa in Orthopaedic Surgery, graduating from that program in 1998. Dr. John Song , Orthopaedic Surgeon, Welland went on to finish an additional Fellowship there in 1999 subspecializing in Shoulder Surgery. Since 1999, he has been practicing at the Welland Site, when it was still known as the Welland County General Hospital.

Dr. John Song , Orthopaedic Surgeon, Welland also serves the Dunnville and South Niagara communities. The question that always seems to come up is “Why did you choose to come to Welland?” Basically, it was through the contact between Dr. Szabo, Welland’s first Orthopaedic Surgeon, and John’s older brother, Dr. Tom Song that Dr. Szabo met and recruited John.

Among the added administrative duties in the new NHS, Dr. John Song , Orthopaedic Surgeon, Welland also holds a Professor Adjunct position for the McMaster Medical School taking on students and the occasional resident. His philosophy has always been to strive to remain at the forefront of advancing surgical techniques and procedures, and over the years, his successes include incorporating shoulder arthroscopy into routine procedures, bringing reverse total shoulder replacement to the region, and now by pioneering Direct Anterior Approach Hip Replacements.

Dr. John Song , Orthopaedic Surgeon, Welland also believes that success cannot be achieved without a strong team approach, and would like to acknowledge a few of these people who have helped shape his practice now: the late Dr. Szabo, Dr. Ansari, Dr. Rittenhouse, Dr. Gunton, Dr. Badawi, Dave Cuviello, the Nurses and Staff in the Welland Hospital who work on the 4th floor and Operating Room, and of course, Marion Little and Chris Souder for keeping his office organized. There are so many more, and he is grateful to be working with such great people dedicated to bringing excellent musculoskeletal care to the people of Niagara, and beyond.
