Unlike psychologists, psychiatrists can prescribe medication in addition to providing therapy. Psychiatrists work in settings including private practice, hospitals, and institutions. In treating patients a psychiatrist can also educate them on antidepressants, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, adolescent psychiatry and post-traumatic stress disorder. Studies have found that children who have healthy diets are more likely to be happy. Children who are overweight have a higher risk of experiencing low self-esteem, depression and negative body image such as anorexia .

Research shows that physical activity promotes the release of powerful chemicals such as endorphins and serotonin, which improve mood and feelings of well-being and can be used to treat addiction . It can lower cortisol (also called the “stress hormone”) levels and support nerve cell growth in the hippocampus, a region of the brain that helps regulate mood.
