Registered midwives are medical professionals who provide care to women and their babies from early pregnancy through labour, birth and the postpartum period. Midwives perform screening and diagnostic tests, provide prenatal and postnatal care and psychological and emotional support. In treating patients midwives can also educate them on normal vaginal deliveries, pain management during labour, epidurals, caesarean sections, preparing a birth plan and more.
