The optometrist, the optician and the ophthalmologist are three professionals who take care of your eyes. Read on to learn about their respective area of expertise.

Optometrist

Optometrists carry out eye examinations and vision evaluations to diagnose potential problems and prescribe necessary corrective treatment (glasses, contact lenses, therapy programs). In the course of a complete eye exam, the optometrist can also detect eye diseases and prescribe treatments.

Optician

Opticians make eyewear (glasses and contact lenses) and ensure they fit according to the optometrist’s or ophthalmologist’s prescription. They also provide advice to customers on the frames that best meet their needs.

Ophthalmologist

As physicians who specialize in eye care, ophthalmologists are interested in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of vision problems and eye diseases. They are members of the Collège des médecins du Québec and handle all eye surgery for cataracts, strabismus, glaucoma, etc.
